Tekla Structures does not currently provide a feature similar to AutoCAD's OOPS command, which restores accidentally deleted objects. Although Undo can recover recent actions, it is not always practical once additional modeling operations have been performed or the undo history is no longer available. I propose an OOPS Macro for Tekla Structures that restores the most recently deleted model objects with a single command while preserving their original properties and positions. Suggested Features Restore the most recently deleted objects with one click. Support Beams, Plates, Bolts, Welds, Components, Rebars, and other Tekla model objects. Restore objects to their original location, orientation, and properties. Restore objects from multiple previous deletion operations. Filter by object type (Parts, Bolts, Welds, Components, etc.). Keyboard shortcut support for quick access. Operate independently of the standard Undo history whenever technically possible. Benefits An OOPS Macro would help users quickly recover accidentally deleted objects without interrupting their workflow. It would reduce rework, prevent unnecessary data loss, and improve productivity in Tekla Structures, especially for large steel detailing and BIM projects where accidental deletions can be costly and time-consuming.
Tekla Structures does not currently include a built-in Auto Align tool for automatically aligning parts or components to a selected reference. As a result, users must manually align beams, plates, profiles, and other model objects to faces, edges, axes, or points. This repetitive process is time-consuming and increases the risk of modeling errors, especially in large and complex BIM and steel detailing projects. I propose the development of an Automatic Alignment (Auto Align) Macro for Tekla Structures. This macro would allow users to automatically align one or multiple selected parts to a reference face, edge, axis, or point with a single click, making everyday modeling faster, easier, and more accurate. Suggested Features Automatically align parts to a reference Face, Edge, Axis, or Point. Support multiple selected parts in a single operation. Alignment options along the X, Y, and Z axes. User-defined Offset (Gap) values. Option to preserve the current orientation or automatically rotate parts during alignment. Keyboard shortcut support for a faster workflow. Compatible with Beams, Plates, Polybeams, and other Tekla model objects. Reduce repetitive modeling tasks with a single command. Benefits An Auto Align Macro would significantly improve productivity in Tekla Structures, reduce manual alignment errors, and streamline steel detailing and BIM modeling workflows. It would save valuable modeling time, improve consistency across projects, and become an essential productivity tool for Tekla users working on projects of any size.
1. Görünürlük (Visibility) Tanılama Aracı Bir elemanın neden görünmediğini analiz eden bir araç geliştirmek istiyorum. Örneğin; kategori görünürlüğü, view range, phase, workset, design option, view template veya filtreler gibi tüm olası sebepleri kontrol ederek kullanıcıya net bir açıklama sunması hedefleniyor. 2. 3. İsimle Seçim Aracı (Select by Name) Aktif görünümdeki elemanları listeleyen bir arayüz açmak ve: Kategoriye göre filtreleme İsim veya tip adına göre arama Seçim yapabilme Böylece manuel “Select All + Filter” sürecini daha hızlı ve kullanıcı dostu hale getirmek. 1. Visibility Diagnostic Tool A tool that explains why an element is not visible in a view. It would check all possible reasons such as category visibility, view range, phase, worksets, design options, view templates, filters, and other overrides, and provide a clear diagnostic result to the user. 2. Room-Based Documentation Automation A tool that automatically generates: Interior elevations Floor plans Ceiling plans for selected rooms and places them onto sheets based on predefined standards. The goal is to speed up room-based documentation workflows, especially in large-scale projects like hotels, hospitals, and residential buildings. 3. Select by Name Tool A UI that lists all elements in the active view and allows users to: Filter by category Search by name or type Select elements directly from the list This would replace the usual “Select All + Filter” workflow with a faster and more user-friendly approach.
I’d like your opinion on some Revit automation ideas and any additional suggestions you might have. I’m about to start a BIM-related job and I’m still a beginner in both Revit API development and programming. These are some automation tools I’ve been thinking about: 1. **Visibility Diagnostic Tool** A tool that helps determine why a specific element is not visible in a view (visibility settings, view range, phase filters, worksets, linked models, category overrides, etc.). 2. **Room Documentation Automation** A tool that automatically creates room plans, reflected ceiling plans, and interior elevations for rooms, then places the generated views onto sheets according to predefined standards. 3. **Select by Name / Category Browser** A tool that opens a window containing all elements visible in the current view, organized by category. Users can search and select elements directly instead of manually selecting everything and using the Filter command. As someone who is still learning the Revit API, I’d appreciate feedback on whether these ideas are useful, feasible, and valuable in a BIM workflow. I’d also be interested in hearing about other automation ideas that could provide high impact in real projects.
Hey everyone, Let's talk about one of the most frustrating limitations in Tekla: transferring drawing files between completely different models. We all know that .dg files are strictly tied to the 3D model's internal database and part GUIDs. If you have two separate models (maybe a heavily modified revision, a split phase, or you're just trying to salvage drawings from a corrupted model), you can't just copy the drawing files over. Cloning works to an extent, but it requires the 3D geometry and numbering to play nice. The Idea: What if we built an API tool that "strips" the raw 2D drafting data from a drawing? I’m talking about extracting the manual dimensions, text marks, view boundary coordinates, and manual linework, and exporting them into a lightweight format like JSON or XML. Then, in the new model, the "Injector" part of the plugin reads that data and recreates those 2D elements onto a new drawing view. It essentially temporarily decouples the intelligent 2D edits from the 3D database, allowing you to paste your hard-earned drafting work onto similar parts in a new model, or at least bring it in as "dummy" 2D linework/text to save hours of detailing. Has anyone ever tried to bypass the GUID system like this using the Tekla Open API, or tried parsing the raw data inside .dg files? Is this a pipe dream, or actually doable? Let me know your thoughts!
Dealing with consultant or vendor DWGs is usually a nightmare when it comes to layer management. You open a file and see layers like "WALL", "Wll", "01-Walls", "A-Wall-Full", etc. What if we built a LISP that uses fuzzy string matching (like Levenshtein distance algorithms) to analyze layer names? You run the script, and it scans the drawing, grouping similar names and maybe even checking color/linetype similarities. Then it prompts you: "Hey, these 5 layers seem to represent the same thing. Want to merge them into one standard layer?" Instead of manually scrolling through hundreds of layers and doing layer translations, it acts like a smart assistant for file cleanup. Do you guys think this is doable entirely within AutoLISP/Visual LISP, or would it require a .NET plugin to handle the fuzzy matching fast enough?
Hey everyone, We all know the pain of attaching a QR code to a title block (for project details, URLs, or revision dates), only to have the JPG/PNG go missing because someone along the line forgot to bind the XREF. I was thinking: what if we had a LISP that takes a string of text and generates a physical QR code using pure AutoCAD geometry? I'm talking about generating native 2D Solids or Polyline Hatches. No external dependencies, fully embeddable in the DWG, and you can change its color or layer just like any regular CAD object. It scales perfectly without pixelating, too. Has anyone actually written something like this, or would it be too heavy to generate? Thoughts?
What I’m aiming for is pretty simple: Just getting beams, columns, slabs, etc. into AutoCAD in a way that’s actually usable for drawings — without spending hours cleaning everything up or redrawing. I’ve tried / looked into: * DXF export → works, but the cleanup is pretty rough * Going through Rhino / other tools → kind of helps, but still not clean * A few workaround methods, but nothing feels “production ready” Main issues I keep running into: * Geometry comes in messy or broken * Layers are all over the place * Element types aren’t really preserved * End up spending too much time fixing things At this point I’m wondering what people actually do in real projects. Do you: * Have a workflow that works reliably? * Use any plugins or scripts? * Or just give up and redraw in AutoCAD? Would really appreciate hearing how others are handling this in practice. Thanks.

It would be nice if there were an opportunity to identify the Tekla version in which a model was created without opening it. Bir modelin hangi Tekla sürümünde oluşturulduğunu dosyayı açmadan öğrenme imkânı olsa güzel olurdu.
The purpose of this tool is to compare two analysis models. It should provide visualizations and reports that allow users to quickly identify differences in M, N, V, PMM, and displacement at a glance
